The Queen's
(Royal West Surrey) Regiment Re-enactment Society

New Recruits...

We are Recruiting!

The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment Re-enactment Society is looking for new members.

If you have an interest in military history, want to try a new hobby and make some great friends, please get in contact with us!

Able men can take the Queen's shilling and enlist in the ranks as a private. Various positions in the camp are also available for those who don't wan't to run around with fixed bayonets,  but prefer to enjoy the more relaxed camp environment. Roles can include doctors, dentists, cooks, quartermasters and suchlike.

So what can you expect by joining our society? New members joining the line will be expected to attend at least one training session before being allowed to attend an event. This is to give a brief outline of our drill, and an overview of the society. Kit can be loaned to you to allow you to try out before fully committing.

You will have the opportunity to learn about the regiment itself and what life was like as a British soldier in the late Victorian period.

As well as soldiers, ladies are also welcome, as every Regiment has its camp followers - soldiers wives and sweethearts, or vivandiers selling their wares to the troops.

A society event will typically involve setting up a period camp and carrying out duties such as roll call, sentry duty and drill practice. We also participate in arena drill displays, or even full scale battles - often with artillery and infantry support from other Victorian groups.

Once the day is over and the public have gone home, the evenings are for relaxing, chatting, sitting around camp fires or visiting the beer tent for a dance. Whatever your age or gender there is a role for everybody and a chance to make some great friends as well as experiencing some brilliant days out and weekends away.
